October 2017, released Sitecore SPEAK 3.0

Highlights

Sitecore SPEAK 3.0 lets you build Sitecore-branded applications using the Angular front-end framework. SPEAK 3.0 helps developers create applications faster by using familiar, open source technology.

This is the initial release of Sitecore SPEAK 3.0. This version is compatible with Sitecore XP 9.0.

The release consists of:

  • Javascript libraries, delivered as NPM packages:
  • Sitecore Integration library
  • SPEAK Business Component Library
  • Sitecore Styling library
  • Sitecore SPEAK integration services. Shipped with Sitecore XP 9.0. Enabled out of the box.
  • SPEAK 3.0 Reference application.​

New features/improvements

The following issues have been fixed:

You can use the new Angular framework to easily customize and extend the UI component library.
The Sitecore Styling library contains CSS styles and icons for that you can use to create Sitecore-branded applications.​
The redesigned Sitecore integration provides the following functionality for your applications to work in Sitecore:
  • Single-page application routing and hosting within a Sitecore instance.
  • Role-based authorization, so you can restrict access to features of SPEAK3 applications using Sitecore security roles.
  • Handling of expired sessions and unauthorized HTTP requests.
  • Support for logout process from Sitecore.
  • Protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attempts.
  • Translations for SPEAK 3.0 components. SPEAK 3.0 provides translation mechanism for localization of your applications.
The new Disconnected development mode lets you develop SPEAK 3.0 applications without complete Sitecore XP integration. There is a special stub server to handle all relevant requests.
